This weekend , April 26th and 27th all across the country, area YMCA’s are celebrating the national initiative to improve the health and well being of kids. Summer is a critical time for kids to remain active and participate in activities that keep them moving. Unfortunately many kids during the summer are more prone to gain weight and fall behind in their studies.
That is why 1, 900 YMCAs across the country are participating in Healthy Kids Day , in which they hold free community events. The activities vary by Y locations but some areas even have popular kid’s show networks involved like The Sprout Channel. In the Chicago area, The Elmhurst Y is going to be visited by Sportacus from LazyTown and Chica from the Sunny Side Up Show. There are many other events at this location. Check out the schedule HERE.
The Tampa Bay Y also holds an event that includes the annual local mascot challenge, where well-known mascots compete in an entertaining dance-off. Local mascots competing this year include: The Tampa Bay Rays’ Raymond, Tampa Bay Lightning’s Thunderbug, Tampa Yankees’ Blue, Clearwater Threshers’ Phinley, Plato the Publix dinosaur, Chuck E. Cheese, Sparky the Fire Dog, Y Guy and Y Gal, plus many others. Attendees can also expect special appearances by professional athletes. Details can be found HERE
