Weekly Playgroup in Chicago

Chicago Dads organize a weekly playgroup that meets on Thursdays in the city. You can find it by going to the "Group calendar" in the Chicago Dads section of this website.

The playgroup usually meets from 10 AM to 12:30 PM on Thursdays. When the weather is good, meetings are held outside, often in a city park. When it is too cold or too hot or too wet to be outside, meetings are held at a museum or other indoor venue. Meetings are almost always held at a location that does not charge admission.

This event works well for children and dads of all ages. Dads who come to this playgroup have children ranging from just a few months old to grade-school aged. If your kid isn't old enough to socialize yet, that's okay. Come anyway because you are old enough to socialize, and we're there to be social with you.

Is the 10 AM start time bad for you? Come later. The two-and-a-half-hour window for the group is intended to allow people to show up at a time that works for them and their kids. Some guys show up early. Several of our dads show up for the second hour or so. Some guys don't even make it until noon because an earlier start is bad for the kids' nap schedules. We're flexible.

The location of the meeting varies from week to week, and the details are posted on the calendar at this website. Check the "group calendar" for the announcement for the "Chicago City Playgroup" or some variation of that title. Event announcements are almost always posted at least one day in advance.

To communicate with the organizers you can contact Cliff McIntosh via his user profile. (You'll have to register on this site to do this.). You can also communicate with organizers by using the "Post new comment" function for this message.

Any Playdate for Thurs, Nov 8?

Hey Guys,
I'm the new guy still learning the web chat. I'm a SAHD1/2 and my wife goes back to work part time Thurs and Fri at the end of the month which means I'll have both kids all day. 18mos boy and 6wk girl: when I wake with both, cook for both, let the wife sleep in, I can't wait to get the hell out the door to go to work. I'd like to check out the Thursday play group(we live in Albany Park) with one kid first. I didn't see an upcoming one for November 8th.
In addition to networking with some dads like me, I must admit, there's some professional incentive: I'm writing an article for Chicago Parent on Chicago Dads.
I want to be a buddy.

Welcome

Hi and welcome. I look forward to meeting you at the playgroup.
The location is typically posted the Tuesday before playgroup so if you check back during the week it should be up.

Any in the Suburbs

Hi
Are there any SAHD play groups in the Naperville/ Plainfield areas that you might know of?

Naperville

I live in Naperville. I have a 5 year old in K and a 2 year old. I'm currently in a playgroup with 8 mom's and wouldn't mind hanging out with a guy once in awhile. does that sound weird? oh well, let me know maybe we can hang out with kids.
