When We're Not Being Dad

What do you do for fun when you're relieved of your primary caregiver duties?

I'm my spare time, I do this:

I'm now officially a professional director. Town Hall Theatre hired me to direct their all children cast of Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales. This will only be the third time that this version of the popular children's book will have been performed.

he said stupid

shee tee hee heee.

"stupid" and "hookey" (pronounced who' key) are currently my boys' two favorite sneaky words. hookey means butt or ass apparently ;-)

Hey Greg, I'm a bass player

Hey Greg,

I'm a bass player myself. Will you be attending the convention this year so we can talk bass over a couple of bottles of Bass beer?

Yet another Music guy

First and Third Monday Nights I get to bang out all the classics with these guys...

and when I am not doing that (and of course doing all the other daily junk we all do everyday) I play Uke for Tavie's Pre-K class once a month.

Gym, bike, napping, reading, DNO, cooking

Subject line pretty much says it all. I take classes at the gym around 3 times a week, bike ride 1-2 times per week, and nap about 1-2 times per week (see the excellent napping thread). However, all of these are pretty closely linked to being at-home...I work out and bike to keep from getting sick and keep from getting injured (3 back surgeries in KCDADs in the past few years has me scared!), and napping counteracts the fatigue of being a parent...one of my kids tends towards challenging, and I do not parent well when I'm running tired. I love to read, which unfortunately hurts with the fatigue since I tend to read at night...too late at night. DNO once a month pretty much rounds it out.

Fortunately for me, one of the key aspects of the job is also a source of great enjoyment for me...I really enjoy the whole process of planning, shopping, and preparing meals (can't say the same for the clean-up). Although my audience isn't always the most, well, receptive to some of what I put on the table, food is very important for me and a source of a lot of enjoyment.

Disc Golf & Listening to Music

When I am off or get a hall pass I can usually be found at Idlewild Disc Golf Course in Burlington, Kentucky, where I enjoy playing disc golf on the most challenging course in the country. I also enjoy doing a lot of volunteer work on this course to help maintain it so that it continues to look and play great.
I also enjoy just time for myself to surf the internet, listen to some tunes, blog and unwind. Giving my all to entertain and educate a two and four year old, can sometimes wear me out.
I'm with one of the other guys that I don't mind cooking at all, so I find enjoyment in that as well.

Well... when I'm not in trouble and get a free pass which isn't all the often, I get to workout, do yardwork which I enjoy, go for a bike ride if it's not blistering hot or do the library and get some undisturbed WIFI access with my laptop or just read. Action packed thrill a minute stuff I know!
I might even disapear into realms of the unknown...
The unknown being Matt's garage across the street on a Saturday night after the wives and kids are a sleep to drink beer with neighbor dads and join in on the cheap BS sessions. Our street runs N S so it's god awful hot in AM and PM, and hanging in the gagage/driveway is a cheap thing we do to stay cool and not crank on AC.
