To: Gents who attended the conference this last weekend

Subject: When you got home from the conference, did you get lambasted with a play by play of inhouse and outside play events since you left?

Response: Boy I sure did, and to top it off my son had a Black Eye! Plus I got a play by play dialogue about how evil all the other kids are and how the girls were picking on the boys. What comes around goes around I said.
My son was outside playing with the guys when I pulled up, his arms started quivering as I read his lips "My Dads Home!" then he ran up to my truck looking like Rocky Balboa and rolled my bag up the driveway while he told me about his weekend of wrestling with the girls. In 10 years I'll be concerned, he got his butt kicked all weekend!

I think I know, I got a new appreciation from my wife this last Sunday afternoon!

Wow...

I got home to two kids running to me for hugs and kisses to welcome me home, my wife waiting patiently for her turn.

Then, they asked how my weekend was and before I could answer, told me how busy theirs was and how much fun they had with Mom. After they finished, my wife fixed me some lunch and we sat down in the kitchen and we talked about our fabulous weekends.

My wife listened intently about the fun weekend I had and retold about their weekend with more clarity than the kids did before and what a great time she had and without really saying these exact words, told me that I have the greatest job in the world.

I know she looks forward to the couple weekends a year that I go away to have the kids all to herself. (I go to the Convention and usually to Bonnaroo Music and Arts Fest. But may opt for 10K Lakes Festival music fest or maybe Meeting of the Minds-Parrothead Fest in Key West or Telluride Bluegrass in '08.) And I know the kids look forward to it too.

My Return

I was nearly knocked over by the rush to get the first hug when I walked in the door. It was lunchtime, (Sunday) so I helped feed the boys and get them down for naps. This is when my wife got to tell me all about the weekend; swimming lessons, gymnastics class, a violin rehersal and recital, the fancy dinner on Saturday (Noodles & Co.), and the trips to the playground. But the best part was actually Monday, when my kindergartener came home with his writing work. The topic was the previous weekend, and my son chose to write, "MY DAD CAM HOM". That, my friends, is as good as it gets.

It was great

I came home to an empty and clean house (something that didn't happen last year, the clean house that is) My wife and youngest daughter had gone to vist my SIL. So I was able to kick back and take it easy, just me and the dog.

Then on Monday, my 21 y.o. son came home from work telling us that he is moving out of the house to an apartment with three of his buds. That starts a whole new chapter in our lives. It was kind of sad and kind of happy all at the same time.
