Given that we enjoy the good life of the stay-at-home dad almost entirely based upon the good graces of the better halves in our lives, what do yours do?

Mine is an airframe engineer for a major helicopter manufacturer. She has her BS in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, and she is in grad school right now (on the company dime no less) getting a double Masters in Stress Analysis and Rotorcraft Design.

She only speaks in engineer sometimes, but that's part and parcel with what she is. More than I deserve, that's for sure.

She's an actuary for an insurance company. When I want to piss her off, I call her a jumped-up accountant, lol. Let's see if I can put this in terms for us normal people. She does risk assesment and analysis, basically trying to put a price tag on risk. Some of it is statistical analysis, some of it is "actuarial judgment", which really means gut feeling.

She has one more exam left to finish her FSA. I say it stands for Funny Stops Actuaries, since most actuaries aren't known for their sense of humor. She at least appreciates my jokes, I settle for that.

My Better Half

My wife is a Materials Research Engineer for the Air Force Research Laboratory in the United States Department of Defense. She has a BS in Chemical Engineering and a Masters & PhD in Materials Science & Engineering. She also likes to speak engineer at times, but luckily I also have a BS in Chemical Engineering. So I understand her "geek-speak" just fine, and I rather appreciate a good scientific chat every once in a while.

All that, AND a bag of chips...

Anita is a Pre-K Teacher in a "government school" in Fulton County. Among her many talents: grade level chair, ESOL coordinator, and she also helps to train incoming Pre-K teachers coming into the district. She is also studying for a Masters in Education with emphasis on Special Ed (mostly for what that will do for her payscale!)

Being around 4-5 year olds all day, she is the perfect complement to me because I have been known to act like a child (at times).

Aye, there's nary an animal alive that can outrun a greased scotsman...

A controller

My wife is a controller for the fluno center for executive education at the UW and she handles all the money at our house as well. She runs our house like a business and that's fine with me; we're on a five year plan. As long as I continue to get my spending money it's all good.

Kye (there were 3 Kimberly in the small town she grew up in so she finally legally changed her name) is an estimator for a commercial contractor, she has done tons of office buildings but the coolest thing she has built was three sets of multi-million dollar condos for Steamboat Springs Ski Resort.

She is also full of the Smoochieness (but not in a professional capacity)!!

Stefanie is manageing editor of the "Priceless.com" webstite on behalf of McCain Ericson's deal with Master Card. She us also a copy writer/editor.

She was a theater major and can sing nearly every song ever written, (but was unaware that her fave Roack 'n Roll group was The Kinks) she reads, real fast, and is a tad smarter than I am. I asked her to marry me 7 months after we meet. I was afraid I would loose someone I loved so much. :-)

Be Seeing You.

My Sugar Mama

More Chemical Engineers here, both my wife and I. So we both can speak geek as well. Both of us went to work for Motorola after college, working in semiconductors. However, Nancy decided to go back and get here MBA at Harvard, so now she is a Marketing Manager, but more on the technical side than pure marketing. And hopes to be in the corner office someday.

We also make a pretty killer combo at Trivial Pursuit.

She's a professional meeting planner

My better half coordinates all meetings and events for one of the University of TX Graduate Schools. Previously she was a convention manager for a Hyatt Regency Hotel (or Hotel Hell as she called it).

Occupational Therapist

My wife is an OT in Home health. I actually work mostly from home as a Online College Professor, so she is not our sole income (I actually make more but she brings in the benefits).

My Better Half's Job

My wife is a packaging engineer by degree and is the Senior Director of Packaging for Con Agra Foods, thus why I am living in Omaha NE. Everything you get that comes in a package, a packaging engineer designed. One of her designs she help get into the market place are the short oblong boxes for Breyers Ice Cream. She is also a credit short of being an environmental engineer as well. I have helped her out in making money in real estate in the moves that we have made together since being married. So I am worth a little something at this point to her.

My Turn

My wife is a social worker in an inner-city school. She is the community outreach coordinator for the school. She sets up programs in the school to connect the families with the community around and to help make better/stronger families. She also works part-time in the ER at the local hospital (she's actually hoping to get in here full time).

My meal ticket.

My girl and I spent a little time with Washington, DC law firms. We moved back to Boston when a pharma company lured her away with big bucks. I became an AHD. Then her DC firm begged her back and said she could telecommute. She spends her days trying to keep pharmaceutical companies and big pharmacies from getting into trouble with the government. She reviews a ton of business contracts.
