I have at least one daily

I have at least one daily for various reasons. The main reason is to see what all the fuss is about. My 2.5 year old spends every five minutes after my wife gets home screaming, flailing, or screaming and flailing.

After one good scream and flail session the tension in my shoulders and neck just melt away. Or I drink a beer or sip rum.

It gets easier in the summer

It gets easier in the summer time when you can enjoy the sunshine, it also gets easier when they are older and they can run around without your constant attention.

Today I freaked out- my daughter went into a full-tilt panic attack screaming fit because I needed to put a band-aid on her scratch. And plus, I've been cooped up inside for the past week with a sick baby who can't attend daycare at the Y.

if you're not freaking out...

...then you're not parenting. Welcome to the site. I've learned what things about my 5 1/2 year old son are going to piss me off or freak me out or pleasantly surprise me. I anxiously await to see what things that my 7-month-old daughter is going to do to elicit those reactions.

If you think

you are freaking out now, just wait till the birth. It's the most amazing, stressful, emotional, loving, scary, intimate, crazy, surprisingly arousing (am I just kidding?), experience you will ever have.

Tennis balls and dry dishtowels

Stock up on them. When you need to release, grab some tennis balls go in the garage and throw as hard as you can for a few minutes. Yell loudly while doing so.

The dishtowels? They're for when the car is in the garage. You know what the aerodynamics of dry dishtowels are? You can throw a stack of them in the house, one at a time, and no damage will ensue.

It worked for me.

Am I reading this right?

Are you freaking out because you've been at home with your child for 3 months, or because you have 3 months until your first arrives?

Either way, YES

Eric- I think you may have a point. Now, that I looked at the actual post. I think bassmaster is expecting a baby, there first.

In both cases, yes. I was very freaked out! I don't really remember what I did about it besides try to be as prepared as possible by reading on one hand and trying not to think about it too much on the other.

You'll be fine! Everything goes relatively slow.

i'm sure your wife is freaking out too

she's the one carrying it or giving birth to it...

so's just try not to freak out on each other because you both WILL freak out many times over.

i second dayv's suggestion.

or jim bruer's which was to take a wrench and hit a pipe until you've gone deaf and your hand hurts.

My Advice

Realize the kid won't break very easily. With our first we were so scared we would not be careful enough with everything. We bought the expensive diapers, boiled the passifier if it hit the floor, watched everything like a hawk. It wasn't until our 2nd child that we relaxed and actually enjoyed the kid. Relax and just spend time enjoying your son.
