Which ONE of your current tools do you love and why?

Yeah, I like most of mine, too. I love my old DeWalt power drill, beat up as it is, but for sheer destructive power, I gotta go with my Sawzall. Given enough time and blades, I could decommission a battleship with that puppy.

What ONE tool do you want and why?

I have coveted many tools. This ebbs and flows with the regular arrival of the Rockler catalog, issue of Fine Homebuilding -- Hell ANY tool publication will do. If I won the lottery right now, I think a SawStop table saw would be the first purchase. There have been many times when I could have used a table saw, and I do have this thing about wanting to keep all of my fingers -- silly, I know.

tool

well it's not necessarily a tool, but the thing that i covet most is a dyson vacuum cleaner.

Santa was good to me!

For Christmas I got a mid-80's Shopsmith Mark V, which functions as a drill press, band saw, table saw, and a LATHE, which I am extreamly excited about doing (although I am still waiting on some parts).

Shopsmith - I had forgotten

OMG, my dad had a Shopsmith. It didn't have the bandsaw, but it had a jigsaw attachment. I remember helping him swing those big steel tubes vertical to set up the drill press. That was back when real men used tablesaws with totally exposed blades. The stuff he made on that thing boggles my mind.

The Dyson vacs look pretty rad. I think they should make a ride-on model.

My cuisinart...

No Greg, you haven't been at home too long...vacuum cleaner lust is VALID, dude!

My favorite power tool is my Cuisinart (yes, it is definitely a tool...anything that sharp that rotates that fast is a tool!). My favorite manual tool is a hyper-sharp Wusthof Santoku knife I got at the holidays last year...it still have an amazing edge on it.

I really want a new Cuisinart since the bowl on my current one leaks, but the replacement bowl costs something huge % of just buying a new one.

I would also like a new cordless drill with enough juice to actually drill more than two drywall anchors before needing a charge...I made the mistake of buying a cheap 12v., shoulda gotten an 18v. Give how much I drill relative to how much I cook, I'm much more likely to get the Cuisinart first...

Ohhh, those tools...

How big a Wusthof blade you sporting there trophy?

As far as kitchen tools, I like my Braun coffee bean annihilator followed by my bread maker as the best of the rest. Nothing like waking up to the smell of fresh baked bread and fresh brewed Coffee bean!

lathe

My favorite "tools" right now would have to be my grandfathers wood lathe. I make drum sticks, wine bottle stoppers, baseball bats, and toothpick holders. I have to say that although it's not a hand tool, you have to use different hand held cutters to turn the wood. It's great, if you have never tried it, I highly recommend finding a place that will let you test the waters. You need about 1-2 hours to really get into it, if it's your first time.
