Here's a new feature that I'm testing out....democratic control of what appears on the front page. The idea is that you get control of what appears on the front page of the site and thus, what "first impression" is presented to newcomers and the public.
Near the top of each forum thread, you'll see a box with up/down arrows that say "Send to front page" and "Not on front page". If there's a post that you think is worthy of the front page, click on the up arrow. This box also appears next to votable content on the front page - if there's a post that you don't want to see on the front page, click the down arrow. This lets you vote posts off the front page. If you're using a relatively modern browser, the page doesn't need to reload for a vote to be cast.
When the post gets enough up or down votes, it will be added to (or removed from) the front page (as one of headlines there). Currently, the "what's new" block will still show everything regardless of votes, but that may change depending on how this goes.
By the way, you get 1 of the mysterious and coveted "dad points" each time you vote. If you author a post that gets voted to the front page, you get 10 points.
We may or may not keep this. So, try it out and we'll see how it goes. If you have any feedback on this, please post here. (Please try to keep the comments in this threat to just this topic...I will reconsider the "what's new" block separately at some future time).
Thanks...
