Heya, Army "Wife" here, currently employed as we pay down what little debt we have...then going Mr. Mom. Have a 7 year old Boy and a 5 year old and 1 year old girl.

Originally from IL, Chicago area, have a home in Michigan, but live in Alabama. Following that? My Wife is military, and I'm the dumbass veteran that talked her into joining for her advanced education.

Anyway, found this site to brush up on my stay at home skills. As it is, I do 100% of the cooking (I actually love to cook), do a gernalyl fine job of cleaning, suck at laundry. Rather, I don't do laundry. That may have to change.

Enjoy football, the outdoors, hunting, the occasional Wii or computer game, and I used to enjoy working out. Hope to pick that up again when I have more time.

Swear too much...but the kids are used to that. At least they love my cooking. Married to a fine woman...good on all grounds. She is the smarter of us...applying for PA school in the Army (Physician Assistant). She understands my need to live passionately...so is open to me getting my degree later in life in whatever "makes me the fuck happy" (her quote)

Probably culinary school. Anyone, howdy, and please someone send us a decent quarterback.

Steve

Engineer's Wife here

She works on Blackhawks, I almost died in one when I used to play soldier. Since you mentioned the "interesting" state of Amabala, you're either down in Rucker, or you're in town with me. So which is it?

A smart man would've checked you profile. Rucker. I'm on the other end.

Welcome to the clubhouse. Start drinking heavily now, you'll be glad you did later.

Yup, Mother Rucker it is.

Yup, Mother Rucker it is. Previously Ft. Sam Houston, probably Ft. Sam again within 2-3 years (or as soon as her packet is accepted).

I was 11B and 16S back in the day...though I was of the "lets go blow some shit up on the weekends and then BBQ" kind of soldier. ETS'd Feb 2001.

Gave the Nasty Girls a go in the ultra patriotic wake of 9-11, but it was too far to drive to keep my MOS, and it was funny being the only school trainer armorer they'd ever seen, walking into an arms room that still had only M16A1s in the racks. So I wound up telling them to get stuffed.

Possibly becoming a SAHD

Hey thought I would join on here and try and get some advice. Possibly at the end of the year the "wif" (not quite wife yet, getting married end of Oct this year) will have had a new job for a few months making almost 3 times as much as I do a year so I will be able to quit if I so feel my dad job, and just continue to gig with my band on the weekends.

Any advice on how the life of a SAHD really is. Like how you deal with friends, I know most of mine would pick on me about it, just the whole lifestyle change, all that.
I'm 26, my son is 8 months old, I'm in Charleston, SC area.

Thanks everybody.....

It's been hard

That's what she said.

I digress. I've had trouble staying close with my old friends, but that break really started happening when my daughter was born; I began staying home six months later, and most of my friendships were in their current configurations by then.

It's like shaving your head into a mohawk. People might go "Wha?" at first, but then they get used to it and relax. And those friends who continue to bug you about it are a-holes.

I didn't notice any changes with my friends except that I was more likely to talk about poop related issues. I was 26 when I became an at-home Dad, and it was a real struggle. I was still a night owl, going out to bars, performing in shows, struggling to keep my city life sane and "normal". Eventually, you spend enough time around your kids that you realize that there are more important things in life than friends and concerts or whatever.

A Con-ce-rt

Me thinks a con-ce-rt is when you make a real effort to do something as I vaguely remember! A con-ce-rted effort! And a bar is something you raise. Capiche?

Ya know how I deal with my friends? I invite them over for lunch, answer the door in my pajamas, with Sesame Street on in the background, not shaved, and make sure I interrupt lunch a few times to go do something silly with my son.

By the time they are leaving to go back to work, I'm usually hearing about how much they want my job, and how they wish they could have the time I do to spend with their own kids.....

Welcome, and check out the convention this November!!!!!

A bar is something two guys walked in to, right after the priest, the rabbi, and the monk.
