As I checked my e mail this morning, I decided to visit my fellow co-worker who is also a Stay at Home Dad and read his Blog. He’s in a deep funk, and in my opinion it’s more than likely brought on by this time of year as a I have been feeling myself sliding into ‘da Stay at Home Dad funk.

I picked up my new bike at REI between 1 of our 3 holiday blizzards, actually between 1 and 2 but that’s neither here nor there.

What is here and now, is the fact my new bike hasn’t moved from its place I put it in back in December of 06 inside our garage because of all the icy conditions that still haunt our streets; and its still got the new tire nubs on my new tires because I haven’t been able to go for a single ride yet! And that has me in ‘da funk!

The lottery to get selected to ride in the Ride the Rockies is still a month away and I feel pretty good about being selected but I want to ride NOW! We will camp on the ride except one night in the middle of the ride when we will be in Glenwood Springs; I booked us a suite at the Glenwood Hot Springs and Lodge. I figure it’ll be a great way to break up the sleeping on the ground and we get to soak in the springs to boot! Then the next day it’ll be off to Aspen on my new K2 bike. I am no skinny tire Nazi and won’t be riding one of those slick, fast bikes because I am in a more comfort mode when I ride, plus I pull a Burleigh, although not for this ride. My new bike is a mix cruiser/commuter/mountain bike, true it's not the fastest but this isn’t a race now is it? It’s got 24 speeds and a front shock plus there is mechanisms on the seat post to smooth my ride and can be viewed here. Now if the weather would only cooperate!

Thanks for the shoutout!

I'm feeling a bit better today. The sun is out and we've made plans for a nice drive and lunch tomorrow. That is, if the ferries are open (you know its cold in Missouri when the Mississippi River is frozen shut!

I used to put over 2000 miles a year on my bikes 1000+ road and 1000+ off road, but that all changed 10 years ago when I started working 3rd shift at my company. I still miss it but I don't know if this out of shape old man body could ever do that again.

A Funky Funk

Kev, it's good to hear things are happening. More snow id forcast for tonight and all week, yippy! I'm just glad I'm not in upstate NY, man 100+inches don't know what I'd do. This 45 year old body needs fitness to live like I'm 19 again or I lock up. I'll let you know how I am locking up after a 400 mile week of mountains!
