Hi guys;

Going to the movies is my big hobby, so with help of some soccer moms we got a theater to have an especial show for parents and kids. Most of the people in the theater were parents seen the most recent movies in company of their little ones.

The first one was Brokeback Mountain (January 2006), my son was 3 mo, and since then one movie per month. The last one was on July 2007, but I don't remember which one.

So what was the last (R or PG) movie, in theater, you were able to attend?
Did you bring your kid(s) with you?

BTW, what movies are now in theaters?

When the Lights Went Out in Georgia

Remember that one?

Well thats about how long it has been since I went to the movies. I love movies and going to the theater, but when comes down to it, my wife and end up choosing a nice place for cocktails and a meal. Getting a sitter is like gold, so going to a movie and sitting there and not talking to each other is hard to justify. I miss the movies a lot.

What is out there now? Not much, I don't think.

Never took my kids to a movie yet (1 year and 2.5 years) due to age, but looking forward to it. We took the oldest to the Diego Musical. She loved that.

Favorite Movie Ever.... Heartbreak Ridge.

I've seen all of them

I won't cut and paste my post on the "Horton Hears a Who" thread, but I bring my daughter to the movies all. the. time. She's awesome.

From "Spiderman 3" to "In Bruges", we've gone constantly since she was born. You just have to know the tricks.

Here's a preview of a blog post I'll write about this stuff soon.

Tip #1: The noon multiplex show is your friend. Arthouse theaters that show one movie will usually have more people in the theater at any given time of day than the multiplex will in the afternoon. I've been to several showings where no one else at all was in the theater with us, and Erin was able to crawl all over the place when she was awake.

Tip #2: The multiplex is tu amigo. The multiplexes in my area often have showings with Spanish subtitles. The movies are in English, with some crazy moon language writing at the bottom; but they are still perfectly watchable. And, for some reason seeing subtitles throws people off and they'll go to a different show instead. Again, totally empty theater on several occasions.

I guess I'm Odd Man Out

I don't really think about taking my kids to movies that much. I love movies and go to the discount theaters often. But by myself. Movies are my escape from the daily chores.

I get disappointed when I see five-to-ten year olds at Lord of the Rings and such adult-level movies. Kids don't need to see that sort of stuff, in my opinion, until they are older and more able to grasp what's going on. Again, I know most people will disagree with me, so let me have it.

Among other things, their perpetual questions throughout the movie ruin my own experience. (And indicate their inability to grasp what's going on.) So I move seats? All the time, because there is something about me that makes people want to sit right behind wherever I sit.

And just to round off my diatribe, I do take my kids to the occasional movie. But they are kid-oriented movies. Again, let me have it.

A theater here has a cry-baby matinee on Wednesdays where babies are welcome. It's nice because they show regular PG-R movies, just everyone there has a baby so no one complains if one is crying.

After he got older and knew what was going on we stopped doing that but I might pick it up again if I get some time away with just the new baby.

It Was a Lame Duck

The last movie I saw solo was what, 5 years ago when the Clive Cussler book, Treasure was made into a movie. I have seen a bunch of kid movies since.
Don't get me started, but Mat McCounaughey (sp?) is no Dirk Pitt, not even close to it, in his dreams.
And that, my friends, was more than likely the last time we will see a classic Cussler epic on the silver screen.
