It hit me when typing a response to BackPacking Dad that I've been meaning to ask this but have not. Dads with older kids can answer this.
At what age did you let your kid ride their bike around the block solo? We live on the interior side so no street crossongs are involved, and it's 1/4 mile around, sidewalk with curb the whole way. It's the driveways that freak me out these days, every spring it seems like a kid is runover in Denver from a car backing out of the driveway into the street. I have already been trying to make him aware of this hazzard. My mantra this summer is already "watch for cars that are backing up out of the driveway, you stop and wait"! Thanks fellas.
Biking Question

riding my bike alone when I was 5.
I was also hit by a van on a highway just after my 6th birthday. So that's probably going to affect the way I let Erin ride her bike.

Now with new Dad Blog!: http://backpackingdad.blogspot.com

Even in small town America there has shift in the way people drive and respect the rules of the road.
Remember when we carried a dime in our Chuck Taylors so we could call home in an emergency. Now it's different, especially with cell phone and driving..MHD I don't envy you on this one. Scary stuff dude..
