I pride myself that in 6 years and 8 months of being a full-time stay at home dad, my wife has missed a grand total of 2 hours of work because I couldn't do my job.
As a Director at a major pharmaceutical company with many direct and indirect reports, she deals with, mostly, women who take time off quite often to care for their sick children. Although I may not do the laundry the best or clean the dishes or bathrooms as quickly as she might desire, I pride myself in that she can concentrate on work between 6 Am and 6 PM without worrying about us or the house or any other logistics.
Tuesday at 2 AM our youngest, 3, started vomiting. He threw up 5 times between 2 & 8 AM. This guy is a true moma's boy, unlike y 7 year old. He wants mom's arms and touch. He was so messed up that she stayed home to help him on Tuesday.
Wednesday Lucinda went to work. Sam remained sick and I took him to the Dr during walk-in time (previously they told me to ride it out on the phone). He starts doing better and with spring break and nice weather, we all went to the park twice yesterday.
Lucidna gets home at 5:30 and immediately gets sick - same thing as Sam had. Now I start getting sick and finally succumb at 9:00 (and 10:30 and 2:00, but...). Josh, the 7 year old wakes us up sick at 3 AM.
Seriously, for the first time in our families history, we all got quite sick and in quick succession. Lucinda's actually feeling the best of the 2nd round of ill people. She wanted to go to work today, but having gotten no sleep, a 3 year old who wants to play and Josh also sick as a dog (and self still ill) - I felt it better for her to stay home.
So after over 6.5 years of never having my wife deal with sick kids or a sick husband, she's taking 2 days off this week. All in all, I think I'm still doing quite a good job.
Cheers,
Caleb
