I am a professor at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. I'm teaching a course called "Gender and the Life Course" this spring. I'm looking for a stay-at-home dad who could come to my class (without kids - sorry!) to talk about the challenges and rewards of being an at-home dad. The class is Weds., May 14, from 1 PM - 2:20 PM. There's no reimbursement, but you'd get to let about 30 college students know there are options available when it comes to parenting and work. You will be on a panel with a working mom. Please email me at if you're interested. Thanks! Gina Logan.
Need speaker for class at Northwestern University

Without kids?? Doesn't that defeat what it is we do??? I say bring your child in your backpack so "college students" can see practical application of Stay @ Home Dad doing his thing...
Good luck with your search!
Aye, there's nary an animal alive that can outrun a greased scotsman...

Wait. How far is Northwestern from California?
It may take me a while to get there...I'm on foot.
You know, I actually would do this if I were closer. I hope someone else can help out. I don't see this as treating us like lab rats. Lab rats get snacks.
But really, there is a difference between the researcher who wants to figure out how at home dads tick, and a professor who would like some help teaching something.
I'm all for lecturing undergrads.

Gosh, if only our family vacation coincided. I'm a 4th year Ph.D grad. student at KU and a SAHD so I would LOVE to come talk to college students, but a Wednesday in May might be rough. Also, it's about 8 hours to Chicago from KC. Could we do a conference call on speaker phone maybe?

I think this is a great opportunity to let other guys (and girls) know that men can be the stay-at-home-parent too, and that it's a good thing. I wish I could help out here but the 'no kid' is the issue for me too. Sorry. Good luck finding someone; I hope you are successful. The class should be very enlightening to many of your students.

I agree that this is a great way to enlighten others on what SAHD do and sacrifice. For the most part those sacrifices are the same ones a SAHM makes, but from a different perspective.
I hope someone can go. I think SAHD should take advantage of these whenever possible. I am in Wisconsin, but cannot go, because... well I am a SAHD.
I suggest the Prof opens the limits a bit. Try to find a Dad with kids that are 4 years or older or something, and allow him to bring them. For God's sake, I am sure the Dad will know how to bring a coloring book to occupy them. This is what being a SAHD is about. If you really want to see what is about, that is what I suggest.
Good Luck. Hope someone can make it.

You will also, as part of your assignment, have to report back to us on how it went.
