venting

had an encounter today at wal-mart.

this older lady was taking her good old sweet time in the line in front of me, too busy yapping on her cell phone to be able to stay focused enough to swipe her card and grab her bags.

i only got a couple of things (cat food, chapstick, laundry detergent)
so it didn't take long before both our bags were on the turnstyle.

she's still yapping away on the phone making these weird hand gestures at the cashier while rubbing up against me as i swiped my card.

she was planning on moving.

i try to reach around and grab my bags and she looks at the cashier and says with an attitude that she needs one of her bags doubled.

i said, "well mayeb if you got off the phone and spoke to the man he might be able to help you?"

she said, "i ain't got a problem with being on the phone but i see you do"

i said, "clearly you have a problem because being on the phone is keeping you from picking up your bags."

she told the person on the phone to hold on and then double bagged her bag.

"see," i said, "how easy that was?"

she said, "you need to stop worrying about me and take care of your kids!"

oh, not the dad with kids comment. don't go there.

then the cashier interrupted and said, "thank you sir, thank you!"

and then explained how rude this lady was to him before i came in line and how he can't say anything to anybody because he is employed there.

"thank you very much, you speak the truth. these people i deal with are so rude."

"i'm not afraid to speak my mind," i said.

then we walked out of the store... only to spot this woman still on the phone, putting her bags in her car that was parked in the handicapped space, crooked i might add, and then she BACKED UP AND ALMOST RAN OVER US!

is it too early to start drinking?

People at Walmart

Are another of the costs you pay for those low prices.

I am not a snob, but...

I will not shop at Wal-Mart. Not because of any business practices they employ, but because of the grossness level. Here in Statesville, Wal-Mart is pretty much it if you need everyday things. I drive 20 miles to go somewhere else just for diapers. It is well worth it.
I get physically ill when I look at a lot of the Wal-Mart customers. Target customers are much better looking.

Hotness Factor

Target is definitely hotter than Wal-Mart. It's kind of like buying clothes at Old Navy. They are still Wal-mart/Target quality clothes, but definitely hotter. It must be the commercials. But, maybe there is something else to it. I can go to Wal-Mart, Target or another store that is almost the same, called Meijer. My kids always ask to go to Target. They seem to be picking up on something too. In their case, it can't be the cool commercials, because they've never seen one.

I second Matt

With the exception of the occasional Sam's run, Wal-mart and it's patrons can suck a big, fat one. I go out of my way to avoid it. Publix for groceries, Target when I need to get most everything under one roof, farmer's market, mom and pops, anything to avoid the second layer of hell known as Wal-mart.

And if she had tried the "almost run you over" shtick with me, well, that's just one of the many reasons why I have a CRKT M16-14zsf. The tanto will easily go through a tire and pommel will bust a window no problem.

Damn, I'm an evil sumbitch, aren't I? But, in my defense, I've earned the right.

Boycott Wal Mart

I agree that Wal-Mart sucks. I don't go there unless I'm in some kind of masochistic mood. Target may not be better policy-wise, but their stores seem much more fun and clean.

Also Costco is awesome, though I'm not a member yet, because they take care of their employees.

I'm with you guys...

I avoid Wal-Mart too, cuz they squash little shops and treat their people poorly. But I have to admit, the only store near me is just like the ones in the commercials. Or, maybe it is the 'one' in the commercial.

funny because

early on i was so much more a target fan but my wife insists that wal-mart has cheaper/better prices.

i'm totally going back to my target ways.

something about wal-mart is just not right - it's like that bad B-movie flick The Breed i saw over the weekend. had all the right elements but something about it just sucked.

i'm gonna go write another punk rock song: wal mart sucks
