Hi, My idea is to get as many dads from athomedad.org to help create an ABC book as a fund-raiser for athomedad.org. I think that ABC books are things that you can have more than one of and the kids really like them. If we create a book on lulu.com, we could have anyone print it out or (even better) just order the physical book and proceeds can go to athomedad.org to offset server costs.

If everyone submits a page with a photo, or illustration, we could get the book put together pretty quickly. If we get a ton more ideas than we can publish in just one book, we could create a "Silly Edition", "Food Edition" ""Winter Edition" or "Summer Edition" or something like that. (yea right) Do you know if there is any way to make a customized cover for each book, so the dad and child(ren) that orders it can be on the printed cover? I think it would make a nice gift. What do you think, will it fly as a group project, or should I just do one for myself?

Sounds interesting...

This would be something for any dad to buy, correct? I like the idea of the personalized cover, it shouldn't be that difficult to do with on line ordering. I think you would also have to have a default cover (or covers) as well, some busy parents may not have the extra time, may need to buy on the fly or otherwise.

Cool... I've actually been

Cool... I've actually been considering trying to find an artistic outlet for my drawing talents in the same lines as a children's book for my son (and any future churrins) ... count me in and let me know what I can do to contribute!

Dude. You should go into alphabetical list compiling. You could make a fortune!

Oops.

That was my shopping list for the ABC store. I always alphabetize it, too. And, after Squirrely gets through kicking you in the nuts, I am going to compile you. Please shave first, though.

Dad Points for letter choice

So does the dad with the most DadPoints get to pick a letter first or pass and so on? Can Mike post a list of dad points?

    Goofing around

I think this is a great idea. Jane and I were just playing with her blocks and I made this. She immediately starts saying, "A!! A!!! A!!!" So it turns out that she knew what the letter A was all along. I had no idea.

Wow. I'm right in the middle

This is just like high school GPAs again. Great. I feel so average.

If I may, though, it seems like the first word is the worst word to come up with. So I went through the dictionary for you. Here are some "A" suggestions (though I must bow to JPhillip for creativity). These words made me think of my kids in one way or another. Some are easy, some are not, some are way abstract -- I put some lame suggestions after some, just to get things going. Let it get your mind started. Mike, feel free to delete what you want. I take nothing personally:

Just think "A is for...." (And thinking ahead, maybe "B" should rhyme):

    "A is for:"
    accordion -
administrator - Which is what daddy did.
aches - Which is how daddy's head feels.
acorn - That squirrels put away
acne - The great equalizer of your future
admiral - That you could be someday
    Adonis - ...Shawn?
    adversary -
    advertising - See "administrator" above
    affection -
Agamemnon - Whose children avenged his murder (...too heavy for toddlers?)
    aghast -
    Alabama - Will?
    AK-47 - Will?
alarm clock - Which is what you are for daddy
    all-nighter - JPhillip?
    alligator -
    allantois - Too medical?
    allowance -
altazimuth telescope - (look it up)
    ameliorate - (look it up)
America - (look it up) :-)
amethyst - A pretty jewel, just like you.
    anatomy -
anchor - That keeps the boat from floating away.
anole - A lizard that likes to change colors.
    antelope - A swift-running deer.
    antipasto -
apron - Which is what Daddy wears now.
aroma - That daddy gets to smell all the time.
asparagus - That makes your diapers real funky.
    asymmetrical -
    aubergine - ...Chef?
    audiophile -
    auntie -
    auriferous -
autumn - When leaves change to pretty colors.
ayatollah - Who wants you satan-spawns to die (again, too heavy?)

Ben, those are some nice drawings you've got there. Since I can assume that's some kind of fruity beer you've got there, where's your straw and little umbrella?

Alabama, the place that brought you the Civil War, Civil Rights, Nazi's turned American heroes, and a man called "Bear."

AK-47, "the preferred weapon of your enemy. It makes a very distinctive sound when fired, so remember it."
