I can't remember, but I think it was Jon who was talking about trying Yerba Mate. I wanted to hear what you thought if, indeed, that was you who was talking about it. Is it more of a coffee or a tea? Anyone else?
Yerba Mate

It was me, and it is much more like a tea.
You can purchase it in either little tea bags or as loose leaves. I've done both, and not noticed a decrease in quality/flavor in either one. It tastes a little like I would imagine a cigarette would were you to dunk it in hot water. OK that sounds gross- it's really not that bad.
Anyway- I like it. It packs a punch and supposedly has as much caffeine as coffee. It will flat out wake your ass up, but without some of the shaky feeling that comes with drinking the same amount of coffee. I personally, not that you asked, find that it also makes me feel a little, um, randy, if you know what I mean. Not that it does me much good when my wife is walking out the door in the morning to go to work and I'm stuck with 10 - 12 hours of childcare in front of me.
All that said, I still favor drinking coffee in the morning. I really like the flavor of a good cup of beans more than yerba mate. BUT, it is an excellent substitute for coffee- especially on the weekend, wink wink

The only kind I've ever bought is the Yerba Matte' Latte (All Night Samba Herb Tea) by Republic of Tea. Actually not a Latte' unless you add steaming milk. It has roasted Yerba Mate', Rooibos, Blossoms and Almonds.
I think it's more like a cross between coffee and tea, but would agree that it leans towards tea. It has helped a lot with reducing coffee and getting off of it for the most past. Used to drink a pot or more a day, now only very occasionally. Now the wife is drinking it too.
It does have some kick to it and JonMcP is right about the randyness effect. Our kids sleep till 8:30-9:00, so hey, if you get up early enough and help the wife get ready, mornings can be as good a time as any, if you want to really jump start your day.

I am buying a case of it before Friday night. I am for anything that increases affection, whether it is a type of tea or a romantic overture like clubbing her over the head and dragging her back to the cave. (Well, that used to work 20,000 years ago, at least.)
But I thought I would pause to tell you non-tea drinkers -- I think that's about everyone except me and a handful -- what you're missing out on with tea: names. That's it. Names.
The people who named all the tea leaves were stoned when doing so, and that makes it a little more fun to drink. That is why I enjoy a nice cup of Kambaa, Dragon Pearls, Jasmine Dragon Tears, Pai Mu Tan, or Pinhead Gunpowder in the afternoon. And then my wife looks at the tea leaves in the sink and wonders if I've been smokin' it.

go with a box or a canister before you go all in with a case, make sure you like the way it tastes first, the tea that is.
Hey, clubs still work, women have evolved, become sophisticated and liberated... nowadays you just need a softer club.
I am one of those people, wait, I think, ah, never mind.

Hey sfoster, enjoying a nice Ceylon-Ratnapura as I type this. (Already had enough coffee today)
Sugarmamasboy reminded me of one thing a forgot to mention- I've never tried the roasted Yerba Mate, only the green stuff. Might be worth trying both.

Give it a try and let us know what you think. I like my coffee dark roasted, and my wine very red, so I'm thinking that I might like roasted Yerba better than the green stuff. I may try to pick some up in time for Sunday morning... if you know what I mean.

the things my wife buys. *shakes head*
Yes, I shall refrain from any such details.
I've a feeling this stuff may be the cock ah
Reminds me of the Cheech movie, "C'mon cheeks, stay together, let's all stay together"... "C'mon ice cream"
Okay, that's quite enough, any suggestions for a new tea? =p

What I drink:
Black tea: Kambaa. It's kind of strong and looks more like coffee. But it's goooooood.
Green tea: Jasmine Dragon Tears. A little fruity. Tasty. There are some monks up in the mountains that wrap each and every tea bud from the April harvest (I think) with one or two green tea leaves. Oh man!
White tea: Adams Peak when it is less than $20/2 oz. Yeah, it gets really pricey. If it's more, I drink 100 Monkeys.
And I told you these guys were whacked out when they made the names.
Essentially, the green Dragon Tears is really good and much more affordable.
I generally go to Englishteastore.com for most of this stuff, although uptontea.com is looking a little more affordable these days. But I am not endorsing!!
Anyway, off the shelf black tea: Twinings English or Irish Breakfast. I really like this stuff. A good black flavor. FYI: Those are tasty blends whereas Kambaa is a pure estate tea (like wine, tea has estates). But all tastes are personal and you may spit out my favorites in complete disgust. Just don't do so in my face.
More than you ever wanted to know. But tea is my big thing when the kids are in school.

Just don't be going all French on us.
Yeah, my sister in California has sent me some premium organic teas, one was called Energy Tea I think, it has some small spiral shells in it, and not pasta either, the real thing from the ocean I presume.
By the by, the links you listed will not load.
Copy paste works though.

JP, worth a shot my friend- but since you've got three kids already are you sure you want to take that risk?? My wife reports that it does make her feel a little more ready to, um, rock and roll. I'm not sure who with, because I haven't had any Post-Yerba trysts.
(note, I almost used the phrase, "Makes my wife feel randy", but thought better of it:
Jon-- Get your hands off of me! ;-)Randy
Cincinnati, OH
I think I'm the only one in my house allowed to feel Randy and it sounds like I'm in danger of losing that privilege. But then again, maybe that what she really means and why I've not reaped the full Yerba benefits (Yerbenefit????) Randy, you've not been hanging around Charlotte lately have you? ;-)

What kind of sick twisted tea secret codes are these?
What are you planning to do to the newbies at the convention?
Trying them out on your wives first.
Am I going to have to drink this to get my tolerance up?
You going to give us a stimulant laxative and then come in with the snake heads?
C'mom cheeks stay together. C'mon ice cream?
You guys are getting my Irish up or is that for breakfast?
And what are you buying for Sunday?
Who the hell is Adam?
After your done are you then going to feed us fruity beer and steak and potatoes?
j/k :-)

I tell ya, yesterday that stuff worked like fast acting, extra strength Liquid Draino, now I know why there are several warnings on the box, be aware.
Getting your Irish up would be the Yerba Mate in tea code.
JP & Jon, there's always the double edged dilemma of more action and crappy diapers, prepare accordingly.
My wife says it does some too, but if you really want to rev things up, just cut to the chase.
Talk about some cheeky names.
There are all natural men's equivalents that work great too, weather you need um or not. And, ah, if shes taking something like Lioness, you may need something to, aah, keep up.

So, in addition to feeling Randy, Yerba Mate may also cause the same issues as Smooth Move?
Also, thanks for the link Sugar...Boy. I got the balls to send the link to my mate. She will probably kill me. I felt like I couldn't sneak one of those by her. I could probably trick her into drinking some Yerba Mate, but not the products you linked to.

they're actually 2 different teas, thank heavens. The Yerba Mate' is the one to try regularly, the Smooth move is the one to try if you're not regular.
I hope she doesn't kill you, I know how it is. I'm reading up and plotting a scheme to get this one by the warden myself. I've thought perhaps a gift bag with other goodies might do the trick. Perhaps a topic to get ideas from other guys may help too.
I have a question for you (others can answer this too if they want), but I figure you're as good a person here as any. I'm starting to get self-conscience about my user name. I've noticed others have avoided it, fumbled with it, shortened it (as you just did) or looked up and used my actually name. It didn't dawn on me when I registered that it may be a problem, I contrived it from a few friends who have joked with me about being an AHD all in good fun, never bothered me at all. However, perhaps it may to other AHD. I even went to the edit functions to see if it could be changed only to learn that it can not. Any words of wisdom?

I like the name. SMB is funny. In a good way. Many of us have wives in jobs that are more lucrative (not more to be confused with more important) than us SAHD. Don't worry about changing it. The changing of it could be the same reason I used SMB.
I started to type "I like SugarMamaBoy" and it just felt wrong, but you can see why. The meaning of the name is all in good fun, and understood.

I asked you about a simple cup of tea and then BOOM! Randy gets felt up online, SugarMommasBoy gets regular, and JPhillip is about to get decked by his wife. All for a cup of tea. Whoever said it can't be a fun drink?
Just don't be going all French on us.
No, no! Zee onlee zing eet makes mae doo eez a louzy Franch accent! As for the tea links, sorry. Try these: http://www.uptontea.com/shopcart/home.asp and http://www.englishteastore.com/. If those don't work, just cut and paste 'em. I'm just really, really ignorant about all the internet nuances and lingo. I should probably learn more, but I'M TOO BUSY WITH THE KIDS, MHD! (just kiddin'. They're off playing in the streets somewhere, shooting Yaeger shots. I'll know there's trouble if I hear a car honking and screeching.)
And SugarMommasBoy, I personally like that name. I have been referred to similarly sometimes myself (jokingly). I laughed when I first saw it. If you want to shorten it, I suggest you maybe shorten yourself a signature like SMB (BackpackingDad is often called BPD here, though we still don't know where he got that cute kid he totes around to pick up the hot mommas "She's so cute," they tell him at the park. "You are such a great daddy, your wife is so lucky!" "Oh my wife ran off with the mailman. I am raising her by myself.... and I am sooo lonely.") ....(is that going too far? Sorry, Shawn. It's late and you're a great target, er, I mean "guy"... to put up with some of this stuff.)
Or SugarMommasBoy, you could put "Joe" down as a signature under whatever you write, if that makes you more comfortable. You choose a name, and I'll go with it.

They can look all they want, but they can't touch. Well, unless I inappropriately hug and kiss them first.

I like your name as is. As you probably suspected, but were so diplomatic in calling me on it, I shortened it to Sugar...Boy for two reasons: First, because I am too lazy to type the whole thing and second, because I felt like jerking your chain a little. I am afraid my "Glory Days" in high school sports and later in the Navy, where poking fun is part of the sport, have never left me. I hope that I didn't offend you.
Anyway, I would keep your name as it is. I like it. I can shorten it in conversation to SMB if you like. Or, if you like SugarBoy, we can go with that. It reminds me of a good friend and teammate in high school. We called him SugarRoot, mainly due to some of his early conquests of upperclassmen girls when he was a freshman.
Thanks for hanging out.

I found the tea to be a little pricey, but decided to try some anyway. The flavor they had was the organic lemon and I found the taste ok. Just the same as if I would have made regular tea with a slice of lemon. Since I drink pots of coffee, I'm hoping the tea will cut down my intake. As for the price, less coffee equals more tea. They should even out.
I went online and noticed a variety of other products. Since I'm on a diet, has anyone tried the Detox? Also, has anyone tried the children's products?

and much better than your accent.
As long as we're type casting, can we call you Leaf Master Clouseau?
If you order from those places are the teas fresh though?, I like my tea to pinch my ass when it arrives. Actually, I've heard that at some online places it sits in warehouses for a long time, why I asked.
Glad to hear it, just wanted to make sure that it's not feeding some negative AHD stereotype, what with all the hoopla this past week. You guys can use it, abuse it, have fun with it however you like. I just hope JPhil doesn't call me a mamas boy and toss my DILF sneakers up on a telephone line.
Finally... Jellobelly, I mean... Bellyman7, sorry j/k. Yes, I have tried the Detox, if I recall, the taste is so so to blah, you can add honey and lemon to help. It is a pretty good simple detox, as is the Smooth Move just not the same type. There is a much better detox that my wife does which also involves several days of fasting, if you or others are interested, I can post more about it, lemme know.

Since this tea is making you randy,
What exactly are the warnings on the box?
If lasting for more than 4 hours find picture of Yer Mate.
When sitting on throne, may cause son to shine with brief periods of showers.
Do not stand by open flame.
Do not bend, fold, or mutilate.
May cause breakage.
Can cause choking.
May cause discomfort, wear loose clothing.
May cause a large drop in blood pressure.
May cause dizziness.
Do not drive a motorized vehicle.
Do not use handheld devices.
Are there side effects like:
May cause sudden outburst of turrets syndrome.
:-)

I fixed the joke. sorry! I hope that fixes the confusion
Smb or is it frenchie. I don't think a fasting will work since I feed the masses here.
The web site I was researching is the manufacturer of Yerba Mate and they have a few teas for the kids.
One to help them sleep and another for sore throat. Also some for the wives special needs like pms and post preg.
Also, the tea didn't make me feel any randiness only flatulence
Maybe that's why this site was stinky. You guys are all drinking tea and typing, j/k :-)

I don't need no stinking SmoodMoove .... And Yerba Mate sounds like something i should say to someone I meet in the outback... I think i will try them both..... Cool
