Thought I'd share a dinner mistake I made a few years ago.
I was making meatloaf for the gang and noticed we didn't have any more bread crumbs. After searching for a substitute and not finding any and not wanting to make a trip to the store, I decided to put frosted flakes in it.
Do not do this!

dinner mistake

Once got the Kraft Dinner all boiled up to find out we were out of milk. Having made it before with water while camping (bleh) I thought it might be better if I substituted mayo for the milk. Kids still ate it, I almost hurled....

Dinner Mistake

Never use 93% lean ground beef to pan fry hamburgers. They just lay there and burn while the inside stays raw.

It's great for everything else though!

Never, ever...

Put in 2 tbsp of any seasoning when it's really supposed to be 2 tsp. Or, is it 2 T ? Ahhh!!!!

trust a recipe...

...that has you add lots of baking soda to lots of lemon juice or vinegar! :-)

*WARNING* DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME

The biggie of the biggest dinner mistakes for me was teaching my wife how to cook my specialties. Thought it would get myself out of some of the cooking, well it did do that much for a short time before it backfired. Now, she thinks she 'knows' how to cook my specialties better than I do and with her own 'improvements', gagness!!! Now when I cook I get hawked and she tries to tell me how to cook these same things I taught her, the same things I've been cooking for years. My soul mate!

I used to

crack crackers in my Ramen soup.

One day I accidentally used graham crackers. And ate it for about 4 seconds.

Then I threw up and wasn't able to eat Ramen or graham crackers for almost 5 years after.

follow directions carefully

Like JP says, don't confuse the measurements. When I was a kid (about 10) I wanted to make peanut butter cookies and not being too familar with measurements I put 1 cup of salt instead of 1 tsp into the recipe. My mother tried her best to keep doubling the recipe until it came up right, but to no avail. We cooked them anyway and threw them outside for the local fauna, but even the deer turned their nose up at them...

Aye, there's nary an animal alive that can outrun a greased scotsman...

Oh...

So, now we know why Chef is an AHD now. ;) Hopefully, if you were in Hartford, you just trotted down to Civic Pub and made the pain go away. Did you ever go to the Russian Lady when it was still there?

Jphillip

I've been to and enjoyed both (kind of miss the Russian Lady) and both are now gone way of dance clubs, but the Fed Cafe is still around if you ever made it into that lovely dive, and if CIA is talking about Wicker he wouldn't have cared 'cause he will eat anything off the floor.
