(No no not another study about kids.)

I was wondering if any of you guys have undergone a sleep study? My doctor and my dentist (of all people) are urging me to do so. I take antidepressants which make me drowsy and I’m at such a level now that I feel neither awake nor asleep fully. It isn’t as bad as it sounds. I’m under some unusual anxiety stemming from a running fight I’m having with my sister, which is why my dose is so high.

All my life I have had problems getting enough sleep, falling asleep, and staying asleep. Acupuncture works well for me but it doesn’t address what might be going on in the old noodle, as well as it’s expensive and time consuming.

I dunno, any thoughts? I know we are all a little sleep deprived. :-)

Thanks,
Jonathan

I did it.

I had to go to the hospital for mine. I would check in around 8pm and they would put electrodes of some sort all over my head and a few other spots. Then I would watch tv a little bit and go to sleep. The room was sort of a cross between a hospital room and a hotel room. It wasn't so bad. I had to do it two nights in a row. The second night they put me on a CPAP machine in addition to the electrodes. A little awkward, but not so bad. I was free to go each morning around 7am, so it didn't interfere with my AHD duties. The worst part is trying to wash the goop that they use to stick the electrodes off of your scalp and hair. That stuff was like a cross between silicone caulking and bubble gum.

If you have had trouble in the past and you are tired a lot, then you should give it a try. It's not that big a deal. Plus, they can identify if more serious health problems are potentially around the corner for you.

I did.

Pretty much like JPhilip said, but no TV before bed.

I was close to 40 lbs. more than I weigh now when I did it. I had been diagnosed with obstructional sleep apnea (or something along that line) I used the CPAP at home for a bit and it seemed to help, but never got used to using the machine. I started dieting and exercise and lost a bunch of weight and I do sleep better. My snoring that was really bad before has pretty much vanished (unless I've been drinking!) and I am sleeping much better. Also with the better sleep is better (lower blood pressure) feeling well rested throughout the day whereas before I would feel tired again by noon.

Getting good, and I mean GOOD sleep is one of the keys to good, well balanced health on all levels. It is well worth the time and effort to go through the process and get yourself checked.

If using a CPAP means not taking the drugs anymore, in my opinion, there is no argument for what I would choose.

Really? JPhillip and I?

Wow! We have something in common! Who would believe it? I had to do exactly the same thing you did. And like BrianC used to (sounds like you aren't anymore?) I use one of the CPAP machines every night. Does it work? I don't know, I'm too busy sleeping. LOL! My wife however says I no longer stop breathing in my sleep and that I snore a whole lot less, if at all. I also do know that I feel much more rested during the day. I would definatly give it a try, guy. What do you have to loose?

Thanks

Thanks guys,
I have recently lost weight and even when I was a full 50lbs lighter I still had sleep problems so I will look into it. On a personal note, my patrents, always let me "cry it out" when I was a kid.

As always thanks for the insight.

Be Seeing You.
