Mother's Day gifts

So...any ideas for mothers day gifts? Usually, I try to have the kids make something that they can do most of the work on and then try to do whatever activity my wife wants on the day - usually, a family hike, picnic, or something like that.

But...my kid gift project this year turned into a flop and I'm pretty much back to square one without a lot of great ideas.

How about...

a gift card for a massage and/or day of beauty. Or if finances are an issue, make up gift certificates on the PC for a massage from you (will likely lead to better things as well), or a breakfast in bed certificate, mommy's night away certificate, get out of cleaning certificate... etc.

Or the traditional flowers, dinner out, tickets for the theater, a musical, concert... etc.

MDay

My wife got her gift early because this past weekend she ran a marathon, and I wanted to get her a massage. Seemed smarter to gift her the massage right after a long run like that.

Last year my gift was to give the kids a bath for an entire year because she hates it. It was a big hit. Maybe I'll do it again.

my idea

My gift to the wife this year?

I'm going to walk into our bedroom wearing only a bow, and let her unwrap me.

from the kids

What about stuff from the kids? For this and father's day, our tradition has generally been that the gift is "from the kids" rather than between the adults.

Jewelry

I've never gotten her jewelry before (she's not big on it anyhow) but being as this is her first Mother's Day I got her a set of diamond stud earrings - simple and classy that she can wear for work or play. I wanted to get them for her when the baby came but that happened so fast (and early) that Mother's Day was the next best option. I think she's on to me, gotta downplay it.

And congrats to your wife, ticktock - that's something she can be very proud of.

Mother's Day craft

I have to go along with the master here (webmaster mbieweng, that is). The tradition in our house is that Mother's Day gifts come from the kids. Therefore, I get something for my mom, my kids get something for theirs.

Now, as for the gifts. Last year, I took an 8x10 frame, printed small photos of each of the kids on the corners of one sheet. I left lots of white space around the pictures so that the kids could write their names and "I Love You" and stick figures of "Mommy & me" all that sentimental stuff.

Trust me, it looks neater than how I describe it. Especially after the kids are done drawing on it.

For this year, I am considering having the kids select foods and help me make sandwiches for a picnic.

I guess I should explain that we just don't do a whole lot for Hallmark holidays around here simply because we don't. I don't mean to denigrate the holiday at all for those who really like to celebrate it. I am just explaining that we do a very subdued version.

Booze?

Porn?
Maybe a nice heaping bowl of nothing?

I haven't a clue since we have to go to Tuskegee to her step-sister's Vet school graduation. Awfully nice of them to schedule graduation not only on a Sunday, but also on Mother's Day.

Crocs

Random, I know. Xav was due for a new pair and as he was picking his color out he spotted a pair he thought mom might like so he asked if we could get her them for Mother's Day. There are a million styles -- he chose some slides. They last forever (except on the kids who grow out of them).

Anywho, good for pool season.
