I'm entering into summer with a two-year-old who has recently discovered how to run (and therefor trip). Does anybody have opinions on spray-on bandages? Do they really work? What do you guys use for cuts and scrapes?

Bubble Wrap

I just wrap my kid in bubble wrap and makes sure he never leaves the TV. Haven't had a problem yet!

Stuck on New Skin

If the bubble wrap doesn't work, I have two words for you: "New Skin." This is a liquid bandage sort of thing -- not a spray-on bandage, with which I am not familiar. I originally scoffed at New Skin. And then I saw it work.

It is exactly like the Band-Aid brand liquid bandage, but New Skin is cheaper and less complicated to apply. It comes in a little bottle, but you don't need a lot for a cut. Just follow the directions, dab it on, and blow it dry (or tell your kid to blow on it to keep him busy). It has a bit of antiseptic, so it can sting just the littlest bit on the littlest kids. But you don't have to worry about it coming off for several days. It truly works wonders.

AND.... as an added bonus, I used it on my daughter's mosquito bites last summer, and the bites disappeared in a day or less. And they didn't itch after I put the New Skin on her, so she didn't spend her days scratching up infections.

New Skin

I might have to try the mosquito bite thing on my wife. She scratches them until they bleed and then scratches the scabs off.

I go a simple route...

I go a very simple route...some combination of water, soap and kisses seems to take care of most injuries...and a band-aid if there is actual bleeding.

I find the challenge with most products is that kids end up demanding it for every little tiny bump, bonk, or perceived injury...I'm more than happy to dole out unlimited kisses for all those non-existent injuries, but I very quickly got really tired of buying costco sized boxes of character band-aids and various sprays that were really only merited about 5% of the time they were used.

Yeah, my wife is the center of a mosquito convention every summer. I guess it's no wonder that my daughter inherited that trait. I wonder if they just have extra sugar running through their veins. But the New Skin definitely helps.

Bubble wrap

I am assuming that KevH was just being funny. Who knows, though. I could have been wrong. I do have to say that bubble wrap and duct tape got some cookies to my mother in Texas okay. Maybe I should send my kids the same way next time. :-)

It can work

But when it comes down to it, if its alcohol based it'll burn like the dickens until it dries, causing you and Jr. undue stresses.

Plus I have found that when my son gets to see the band-aid go on, it has a calming effect second only to mom. But beware, the band-aid can be a novelty and the fix all for everything. Good thing for big boxes of band-aids at Sams Club!

New Skin Spray >>DANGER >>WARNING

Good Day Folks

Was looking for Band-Aid Spray Bandage as I could not find can I had last year. On shelf at drug store was the New Skin Spray product and upon giving one shot of this on wifes scraped knee put her in EXTREME pain and Discomfort for over an hour. I returned it to store next day for refund and asked where could I get the Band-Aid product.

Never Again >> Read The Label >> New Skin Spray Bandage contains ACETONE, spray that on your little one and you will have more stress than you could ever handle.

I just bought Skin Shield-

I just bought Skin Shield- it's a brush on wound protector. I haven't tried it on actual cuts, but it has helped my bug bites. (Thanks for the bug bite tip, btw)

This particular product doesn't seem to have acetone. Thanks for the advice about new skin spray. I'll stay away from that one.

Spray on vs. brush on

I didn't know that they had a spray-on New Skin. And now I am glad that I never found it. However, I will continue to use the brush-on kind for "owies" and skeeter bites. It has cause no tears in this home.

Hoping to not sound too callous to Billy, but I'm glad that happened to your wife first before it happened to your kid (not because I think you get glee from her pain, but because she is an adult and able to process the pain better).

By the way, mbieweng, this is just some of the good kind of info that this site provides.
