The premise:

Stuck on a deserted island with your trusty tennis ball "Voyt" and you only have the entire works of one artist or band to keep you company musically.

Who is it?

Beatles

I'd go with the Beatles considering there would be enough variety to keep me sane until a case of Coronas washes ashore.

Jonas Brothers

Maybe that would be inspiration enough to build a raft and get the f*** off of the island.

hahahahahaha
I'd never heard of them until last night!! I wanted to puke!!
I think they would be very inspirational.

Probably no music for me. Anything would drive me to suicide if I had to listen to it enough times.

Kid Rock

Cuz I Wanna be a Cowboy Baby!!

Although, listening to Kid might just make me crave a Budweiser.

Queen

Loves me some Freddie.

If it's music to motivate me to get the hell of the island, Celine Dion or Mariah Carey. I would slit my wrists with a palm frond and go wade in the tide pool full of sharks to get away from that.

flaming lips

I'd go with the Flaming Lips, my all-time faves, although as Matt said, if I listened to it enough I might for bat-shit crazy.

To get me motivated to swim or boat off the island: The Smiths or Barney.

Zappa

The complete works of Frank Zappa.
Death would come quickly if Hanna Montana was the only thing I had to listen to.

If you like the sound of Queen/ Freddy Mercury, you may want to hear Mika.

It Depends

If I could have the anthology (i.e., all his solo and group work combined) I'd go with Gram Parsons. If not, then I'd go with Robert Earl Keen.

I assume this means we'd have an upgrade from the Professor's coconut radio on the island?

Thought that the first time I heard 'em. Obviously influenced by Queen.

Oh, sorry, you said "artist or band": Pixies

Maybe you can count the Berlin Philharmonic as a "band"

You too?

Yeah, I'm one of those unfortunate nerds whose knowledge of classical music exceeds his knowledge of rock'n'roll. I occasionally fill in on electric bass in my church's band and the band leader often chides me for my ignorance. I can't say I'm the worst though - our keyboard guy is more ignorant than I but knows more about Broadway shows than any of the rest of us.

2nd nomination would be Steely Dan. Actually a tossup with the Pixies for me.

Thanks Chef. Now I'd have to say it's a tie between The Doors and Pink Floyd.

A bit too much "old school" here...

For anyone who can live with the lack of lyrics as well as an overdose of melancholy: Boards of Canada.

Certainly my first choice for an island.
