ABC is debuting a new show following Supernanny this Friday -- Super-Manny. Yes, that's right. A man, Mike Ruggles, a Chicago therapist will work with families with kids who have behavior problems. More on the show:

So, will you watch? I can already sense the overtones of a man dealing with childcare issues in a nontraditional way.

By the way, in the Tribune article referenced above, I paused at this sentence:
He doesn't have children of his own and has never worked as a nanny, but he has a master's degree in psychology and extensive experience with kids, dating to 6th grade, when he helped out as an aide in a special education class.

I'm always biased about people who give advice to families who don't have kids of their own. Thoughts?

I so agree, this premise kind of reeks of a do as I say not as I do attitude.
You gotta walk the walk, to talk the talk.
It's a "I'll give you advice on how to change a poopy diaper but I've never gotten any on me, let alone actually change one" mentality.

Not quite convinced

Quite frankly I'm always a bit suspicious about these types of reality shows. They might be totally legit but I definitely wouldn't want my family's issues aired prime time on national T.V. (not that we have any issues, we're perfect, ha,ha, ha).
He has quite a bit of training but it doesn't mean that he's ever spent more than a clinical session at a time with a child. How children act at home vs. outside of the home is very different. I was the class clown when I was a kid but when I got home, I was a much different kid (very quite and reserved).
Who knows, maybe he spent a lot more time with kids when he was getting his master's (day long observations and the such). I know I had to but working in a classroom as a teacher and a spec. ed. aide didn't prepare me for fatherhood.
In any case, I think I'll spend that time Friday night cooking dinner, playing with my daughter, maybe, if I'm lucky, reading a bit.
I wonder why they didn't pick someone with a neat accent like all these other shows?

I'd watch if it was convention all-star Kyle Pruett. Really nice guy, incredible insight, and a father.....

And those who can't do and can't teach, write books

My father the college professor used to say that rather tongue in cheek-ish since he was published. The old man had a Ph.D. in educational psychology and will still tell you to this day that all those fancy degrees and framed diplomas don't mean a damn thing when it's your kids your dealing with.

He taught me a lot and the one thing I remember most is this, "You won't always know what to do and even if you do know, sometimes you won't do it. But if you can admit your mistakes and learn from them, you have a chance. But mostly, make sure your kids know that you love them. Otherwise, they won't give a damn whether you are right or wrong. You'll just be some big tyrant who's ruining their lives."

It sucks how right he can be sometimes....

Making it look difficult. Living the dream.

How was it?

I didn't watch it but I'd be interested to hear what people thought.

Hmmm.....

Anybody watch it? I was a bit too busy with the Red Wings and watching my daughter roll around the living room.

Som of it

I did get to see some of it while I was on break at work. Same old nanny show but with a dude. Explaining how the parents caved in to the childrens behavior problems and how to fix it. Same old boring show.

More Action

They really need Chuck Norris to host a parenting show.
