Best Dad movies of all time

I was given an assignment by my editor to come up with a list of top 10 dad movies of all time.  I will publish it online and wanted your input.  Could be good guy like Will Smith in Happyness or bad dad who ended up admired like Duvall in the Great Santini.

give me your choices.  the more the merrier.

Arrrgghh! Not again!!

Sorry, just wanted to vent, because I feel as if I’ve stepped back in time four years. My little lad has just gone off to school and I have discovered to my horror that the mums at the school gates are every bit as cliquey, dismissive and happy to exclude as the mums in the parks and playgrounds when I was the only AHD in town. I don’t know why I thought it would be any different (maybe shared experience, cameraderie at losing our ‘jobs’ etc), but if anything they’re worse! Arrgghhh!

Convention Update 7/22

philipandrew's picture

Fellow Dads,

We are putting the finishing touches on the Saturday program and are getting thumbs up from the local LinOma dads and Convention Planning Committee.  I appreciate all the input I received from dads interested in making this a great event.  We will post the program on the main website:  www.athomedadconvention.com when we have formal committments from the speakers/session leaders.  We are working very hard to make this a successful event and worth your trip to Omaha.

Convention Fundraiser with LabelDaddy

omahahomedad's picture

LabelDaddy.com has agreed to help the 14th Annual At-home Dads Convention raise some money by donating 20% of all sales from at-home dads to the convention.

LabelDaddy_AHD

Simply click on the graphic above to purchase their affordable and washable labels to put on your kids’ clothes, sippy cups and sports equipment. You’ll never have to guess whose sippy is who’s at playgroup or worry about your kid losing any of his clothes at summer camp. Plus, Label Daddy was created by 2 dads (hence the company name), one of whom is an at-home dad.

This great partnership will allow the convention to charge a ridiculously low rate this year (see www.athomedadconvention.com for details) so there will be no reason not to come to Omaha on October 10. Check it out and help out the convention!

NYC Stay at Home Dads Group Featured on Fox News

About a week ago, our NYC Stay at Home Dads Group was featured on Fox  News channel on a segment titled "No more Mr. Mom - Shattering the Stereotypes." Overall, I thought we demonstrated being an at-home-dad to be exactly what it is - a positive experience, rewarding, fun, and cool! How cool is it to get to spend quality time everyday with your child!
Here is the link to view the segment:

My Interview on Vaccines with Dr. Ari Brown, author of Baby 411!

ticktock's picture

I was one of a handful of bloggers invited into a conference call with Dr. Ari Brown, a pediatrician, a mother, and author of Baby 411 and Toddler 411. The interview was organized by Amy Pisani of Every Child By Two, an organization started by Rosalynn Carter as an advocacy group for vaccination. Naturally, the subject of the interview was about vaccine safety, and focused on the recent deadly outbreak of Hib in Minnesota.

How to Explain a Pet Death

Our cat became sick over the weekend. We woke up Sunday morning to him howling. We took him in to the Vet and he had a urinary blockage (crystals in urine and I guess common in cats). It was either put him down or pay $1500 to treat him, with no guarentees of success. Also, this has a high reoccurance. With much guilt we had him put down.

This was seriously one of the greatest cats ever. Others would say the same. He was very social and loved being around the kids, and they loved him. They could pet him, lay on him, and he just loved the attention.

SAHD article in Tuesday's "USA Today"

flyingdad's picture

Did you guys see the article on SAHDs in yesterday's copy of the "USA Today"?
It was on page 11A (first section!), and took up nearly half a page-
Pretty interesting stuff...
Apparently, there are only about 150,000 'pure' SAHDs in the country, but dads (either working from home, or working outisde of the home) are the primary caregivers now in about 20% of all families with young kids & moms who also work...

Help! My kid won't gain weight

Kirk's picture

Hey Dads,

My 13 month old has not gained any weight since her 1 year check-up. She is stuck at 19.5 lbs (9th %tile for her height) and it seems it has been that way for a while. We have been weighing her on the bathroom scale for about 2 months now and she is always at 19.5 lbs. She is growing taller, but not heavier.

New UTexas SAHF study

arock's picture

Dear At-home-dad users,

I hope everyone is doing great! I am recruiting participants for a new study on stay-at-home fathers and wanted to ask for your help! Basically, this study has 3 primary goals.
1) Evaluating the relationship between different reasons for becoming a stay-at-home father and adjustment.
2) Assessing plans and perceptions toward re-entering the workforce
3) Addressing how different factors relate to the occurrence & perceptions of negative reactions from others.
