Theme Parks

Wondering if any of the at home dads plan annual trips to theme parks, like Disneyworld,  Magic Mountain,  Disneyland, waterparks, etc. Or, other annual vacations.  Take some of the hard earned money you save and have fun with it with your family.

Tailgating

Wonder if any of the At Home Dads tailgate, or know people that do.  Know you probably already know, but tailgating is at NASCAR events, or football games where people barbecue in the parking lot.   Never done it.  Any tailgate barbecuers out there?

Why Post Anonymously

Have been posting anonymously for a while.  Do very little else on the internet except this website. Want to address why some dad would want to do it this way.  Internet Security and Privacy.  Less personal information out on the Internet the better. Should others choose to do it this way? Well, that is up to them.  It has worked for this part time AHD, who was a full time AHD. .

2011 At Home Dad Convention Father's Day, On-line, and Global

Suggestion that the 2011 Convention be an on-line Convention using media, telephone call in, and using media services like Skype, camera-phones, etc to bring in all English speaking Countries.  There is ample media sources today, and news outlets to reach a global audience. Father's Day 2011 will be the perfect date.  Future Conventions would then be every two years with an on-line convention in the off year.  The electronic convention will bring in new fathers to the community. Also, bringing in corporate sponsors and maybe even father celebrities over time.

Next Convention Topic? Are Stay at Home Dads Bums? Religous Argument

For the next Convention, wherever it is, consider making this question an official Convention topic. Invite local religous leaders to dissect the argument, look at the research, and draw conclusions.   Putting it to the Convention would be away to hear both sides in an open forum.

Future Stay at Home Dad Convention in San Antonio, Texas?

Would be interested in hearing from dads if they would be interested in considering San Antonio, Texas as a potential site in the future for a Stay at Home Dad Convention.  This is the home city for John Hagee Ministries, and Cornerstone Church. The idea is to have him or his son as a keynote speaker.  It's ok to disagree with people, this would be an opportunity for his church to express their views to some of the dads that he talked about. Keep in mind, in the United States, there may be 150,000 of us.  Those who attend, would represent all of us.

How to legitimize SAHD in the courtroom?

My wife of 20 years took control of the family finances 22 mo's. ago, leaving me no choice but to file for divorce. Dispite the fact that I have finally succeeded in bringing her substance abuse problem to light in addition to the fact that our now 12 yr. old son & I have been in therapy for domestic abuse since Nov. '08 I have, to date, I haven't received one ruling in my favor in 16 mo's!

Saving Money

Wondering what families do to control costs.  Do not want to know your financial situations.  dollars and cents.  What do you do to control income versus expenses.   Don't have to be too specific.

Also, spending habits which relate back to expenses:  Examples: 1) Over the Air television in lieu of cable, satellite.  2) Value meals in lieu of kid's meals 3) phone cards in lieu of cell, 4) Using coupons, etc.

How did you transition to be a stay at home dad

Advice needed for soon to be SAHD... Please help!! My husband and I have decided that he needs to be the one to stay at home with our 8 month old son. I make more money than he does so for financial reasons we decided he needs to stay home. He feels like a failure because he can not be the provider for the family. If there are any of you out there that have been through this or have any advice to give we would appreciate it. I want to help him through this time, but I'm not sure how to help him cope with this. We are both nervous about this new transition, especially since neither one of us had good father figures in our lives.

Vasectomy Pain

I am planning on getting a vasectomy - first appointment with the urologist is tomorrow - but now that I am researching it I am starting to get cold feet over reports of severe and ongoing post vasectomy pain, granulomas and pressure.
Many of you have written candidly about having a vasectomy, but after the initial recovery period how much discomfort or other side effects have you experienced? Any resources you can point me to would be appreciated as well.

Housedad for 18 years, now divorced

I love my daughter, but now I have a very limited, narrow opportunity to find employment. At 50, it's a challenge to find any job and with 18 years of being a housedad, people think its great that I did that, but no one will give me a job. I would suggest that housedads phase out of the job of raising baby about the time first grade rolls around, and get back into a carreer, so that you have a life 10 years later, versus being unemployed like myself!

Anybody hear of this? Does anybody use it? Does it work?

The big V?

Figured I'd try out this anonymous thing by asking about anyone's experiences with vasectomies. I'm 33, and have one child and my wife and I agree that we're OK with not having another one (I'm an only child, so it doesn't seem at all odd to me). Rather than her continue to take the pill I've been seriously thinking about getting a vasectomy........
