At home in scenic Fresno

Hi all --
Tim here, a work-at-home dad for just over three years now to my rambunctious and energetic one-and-only, my son Branwynn.
Greetings

Hi,
I'm new to the site. I'm a work from home dad with two sons, Reid age 3 and Ben age 2. I live in Orange County and have a pretty fun weekly schedule for my boys. I'm hoping to get good information from this site.
Dads in Greater Sacramento (D.I.G.S.)
A chance for dads of any stripe (married, single, divorced, stay-at-home, etc.) to get together, swap tall tales, have a chili cookoff at the park...anything, I guess. If another group already exists for the greater Sacramento region (from Auburn on over to West Sacramento), please let me know.
I am a part-time stay-at-home dad (Thursdays and Fridays). It seems to me that getting together 1-2 times per month at a park or playground or library shouldn't be too hard.
Pasadena, CA Dads

Pasadena Dads welcomes all Dads and their kids to our weekly playgroups. We meet at local parks in Pasadena and the surrounding communities in the San Gabriel valley. Please join us. We're nice guys!
Starting in February of 2008, we will also have a monthly Dads' night out in the Pasadena area.
Contact Jim at if you have any questions.
A new book in the works
Hello fellow “Stay at Home Dads,”
East Bay Dads
East Bay Dads is group of fathers with babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers in the San Francisco East Bay. We meet almost every Monday morning at a local park, museum, or other fun place. And most Thursday mornings there is a hike for dads with kids still young enough to go in a front- or backpack or jog stroller.
Daytime TV Shows

OK, I'm bored. I know I'm not like most of you 'stay at home dads', since our son is now a senior in high school, and the only reason I stay at home is because of disability....
But anyways...what do you guys watch during the day? Daytime tv is horrible. I flip thru so many channels, and there's nothing on to watch (that I find interesting) so i wind up with the usual Price is right, jerry springer, ad nauseum.
Just curious what you all watch.
Sam
New to the boards, just wanted a place to talk with others...

Hello everyone.
My name is Sam, I'm 40 and I've been a stay at home dad for a while. I really can't say that I'm a stay at home dad these days, since our son is almost 18. The main reason I stay at home these days, is due to chronic pain. I haven't worked for over 3 years now, and according to the state of california, my wife makes too much money for me to claim disability.
North County Dads
I'm a stay at home Dad in the Oceanside area. While a group exists in the south county many of their events are difficult for a north county resident to attend... especially with more than one kid...
So.. with that in mind, I'd like to get a group going in the north county so we can share play dates, etc..
Any Dads are welcome... but I'd certainly like to find some Stay at homes!!
Temecula and San Clemente are certainly welcome... as would be anyone that was nearby and wants to have kids to play with.
yada yada.. hopefully I can edit this later, eh?!
20/20 Taboo
On Friday night; 20/20 aired an episode regarding Taboo topics. One of the several topics was about an at home dad in Utah and the taboos that he faces being and at home dad. Then another topic was about an at home mom saying that her children bore her to death. She actually wrote an article that was published in a newspaper that caused an up-roar.
In the program; the bored at home mom mentioned how boring reading to her kids were and participating in Mommy and Me classes.
Is this lady really breaking the taboo by saying what all or a lot of at home parents are thinking or feeling? Is being an at home parent "boring", from what I have read; an at home parent would not have enough time to be bored.
When to quit?
The research continues...
We are completing an estimated timeline on projects, etc. The question came up on when should I quit my job? I was wondering when other at home dads quit their jobs.
Did you stop working.....
Toward the end of your wife's pregnancy - right before she gave birth to your child?
Right before she went back to work when the maternity leave ended?
Right after the baby was born?
I was thinking I would go on FMLA right before my wife maternity leave ended. Once my FMLA ended - I would then quit. This would maximize the income coming in.
I know she will need help during this time, however, we are very fortunate to have a lot of family close.
