DaddyLike Van Ad

I'm driving on the freeyway.  I see a billboard with photo of a Toyota Sienna Van, next to it in BIG letters is the word DaddyLike.  Wow, a car company advertising a van for dads?  Okay, now we are really looking like wimps.  I guess I'll be driving a Toyota Sienna Van on the highway to hell.

The ad is also on YouTube

Andy is that your brother playing dad in the ad?

Colic

Our baby is now almost 8 weeks old and my wife has gone back to work. She was unable to breastfeed so we started out on formula from day one. At 3 weeks old, the baby had blood in his stool and we found out that he was allergic to the milk in formula. We switched to a special (expensive) formula called Nutramigen and the blood cleared up but now the baby has reflux. It's almost impossible to get the baby to sleep unless I'm holding him. I stay up most of the night taking care of him and then try to take care of him and our 2 year old until my wife gets home from work.

Family Bed

Anybody here doing the family bed thing?  We do and love it - no one is awake at night for more than a few seconds at a time and my son sleeps from ca. 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. :-D

Thought I Was Immune

Having four kids, and having been home from day one, I thought I was seasoned enough to manage whatever decides to come our way.  I am not.  I had to take our 6 mo. old daughter to the children's hospital today for a pretty awful test.  She's laying on the table, crying.  Just what you might expect, right?

Too many spammers?

I haven't been around here long, but it seems to me like there are too many spammers posting links in discussions - it isn't like that on other discussion groups I am part of... Are we very popular or are we having a hard time keeping out bots?

losing my identity

I am new to this forum and I would like to send a quetion/comment out to feel the waters so to speak.  I just bewcame a new stay at home dad and I have noticed that the role has completely reversed.  I do all the house chores, the cooking, the yard, the car repair, the cleaning, making my wife lunch and breakfast, while taking care of a new born that my wife doesn't even want to touch.  I see her go to work, come home and blop s=down on the couch and go to sleep.  I have been working my but off all week long and when it comes to the wekend, my  wife sleeps in late and won't even help w

I'm working on a blog for Momaha.com on cussing. What are your guys' opinions about it? Have you ever sworn in front of your kids? Have you ever sworn at your kids?

I've done it all, but I don't do it often.

I wonder how it affects us and our kids. What do you guys think?

A Bunch Of Losers? At Home Dads struggle to change an outdated stereotype

It was Friday, mid-November and the weather was unseasonably warm and balmy for this time of year. I was holed up at Dulles International Airport on the outskirts of Washington, D.C., waiting for a connecting flight to Kansas City.

It was two and a half hours into a delay before the flight attendant finally called for passengers to board.

After boarding the plane I introduced myself to the young woman sitting next to me and asked her about her travel plans. She was going to meet her boyfriend in Kansas City who was coming from Texas.

“And what about you?” she asked.
“I’m going to a convention for At Home Dads,” I told her.
“What?” she asked.

Housework with kids

Friday is my cleaning and laundry day.  I like to say that I am messy, but clean.  My wife is the same way (one of the things that first attracted me to her, btw) so we don't stress about the clutter that builds up over a week.  We always kept the kitchen and bathroom clean, but didn't wash the floors in the rest of the house very often before we suddenly had a family member who ate a lot of his food off the floor... Now, I clean the house and wash the floors every Friday.

Toys for girls and boys

There was a show on TV here last night looking at the whole nature vs. nurture debate - here in Norway, the general academic opinion is that biology plays no role in who we are and the choices we make.  The host of this show was interested in looking into the scientific basis for this claim and found that many researchers from around the world have actually found the opposite - that boys and girls are different to begin with.  Of course the child's environment can encourage or repress certain traits and behaviours, but you can't ignore the fact that there is an inherent difference.

Income

I was just curious if any of you sahd's do some kind of home based business to contribute to the household income? I would feel better if my kids were able to stay out of daycare, but we can't afford to live on one income. I know there's a lot of options on the internet, mostly scams, so I wanted to know if any of you do have a business that is legitimate. Thank you!

Giving Us a Bad Name

Okay, I'll start by putting all my disclaimers out there: I am a lightweight when it comes to drinking.  I'm fiercely protective of my kids.  I am opinionated.

Now that we have that out of the way, has anyone else read this article?

Beer and Braids: CBC Radio - The Current - Decemeber 24th, 2009

I listened to a re-broadcast of this show  on the radio on my way home from dropping my daughter at play school a few weeks ago.

It was what led me to this site.

At the bottom of the page, pick 'Listen to part 3'.

I especially liked the soundbyte from Rev John Hagee.  And I too think that if I am on the road to hell, the trip is well worth it!

Justin Roberts' Stay At Home Dad song/video

msmithivas's picture

Noted children's musician Justin Roberts has a terrific new CD out called Pop Fly and on it is a track called Stay At Home Dad. I recently found out he has a video for it on YouTube:

The video is kinda cheesy, but the sentiment is spot on I think. My 6 year old daughter says that two of the tracks on this disc are "the greatest songs she's ever heard" (this one was not one of them).

Going to be a SAHD

Hi there. I have checked out several places for Stay at Home Dads online and this looks like a pretty good one. I am not one yet but soon will be with my twins on the way and my adorable three year old running around. Soon as the new ones are born I plan to start being a regular stay at home dad and pull my daugther out of daycare to help save money. I am currently on the look out for a part time job on the side to help our income. Hopefully this side proves to be a good support for me in this new adventure. Thank you
