Stimulation! ;-)

randyfielding's picture

I just got my tax rebate yesterday, and I can't wait to go and Stimulate The Economy™! My wife and I got a whopping $1500. No small chunk of change there! We are going to save the money and use it towards a down payment on our next new vehicle purchase. However, before said vehicle is purchased, my wife has clearly stated to me that she must be pregnant again with child number two. How is that for an ultimatum?

If you received a tax rebate, what are you and your family planning on doing with it?

Navigating the 4 year old social world

My daughter is 4 and she's somewhat shy. That may be something that we can't change, but I'd like to at least help her along in making friends and generally enjoying the company of others in life.

There are a few different situations that I've encountered related to this, and I'm finding it challenging to figure out how to handle these things. Here are some examples:

OMG WTF!!!

i came home from work 30 minutes ago to an empty house.

the kids are sleeping over my sister-in-laws and my wife when to a co-workers college graduation party.

the house is empty and quiet and i'm confused at to what to do. the possibilities are endless. it's like i just skipped my first day of school and i'm like "okay, home alone. now what?"

i think i'll spend some time drinking and working on math equations first and then just go from there.

How many alcoholic drinks do you consume in a regular week? That's 7 full days and nights. Be honest.

SEX TOYS!!!

ticktock's picture

A friend of mine was wondering if any of you guys knew a good place to buy some sexy-time stuff on the internet. My friend is too embarassed to buy stuff at the local Hustler store. My friend wants to buy his wife a Valentine's Day present. My friend is lame. Can you believe he would ask something so dumb and obvious? Anyway, I thought I'd pass along the request so that you guys could chip in with advice. I've already told him all the places that I get stuff, but maybe you all have better options. For my friend.

There is not a shortage of rooms for the convention.....yet

dayv27's picture

Addressing the rumored shortage of rooms at the convention hotel....

There is not yet a shortage of rooms, there are more left. They set us a block of rooms, and if we don't fill them in a certain ammount of time, they cut back some of the block. I just spoke to my contact at the hotel, and we are good. We still have plenty of rooms available with our discount, for now.

SAHD Transition Blues

PVDad's picture

I think I've seen something like this posting before so I hope to get some fresh perspectives. I started staying at home full time last Fall. I have two kids (1 and 3) and have always been a semi-primary caregiver but this is now a full time job. My wife works insane 7-day-a-week hours so even when I worked during the day, I was still home alone with the kids at night and on weekends.

Convention Question? Whos going?

I'm gonna book my tickets for the plane in a few weeks and I was wondering when we should book the room?

Check it out - although the article lists it as Mom's salary, we know the truth.... Found this interesting.... Every few years one of these comes out, but I find them interesting nevertheless.....

Photo ID for kids

Itux's picture

Hi guys

I have been thinking about getting a photo ID for my 2y6m old son. He already have his passport, but I want something more the size and portability of a State ID Card.

What do you guys think about state id cards for kids?

Depression in New Dads

JonMcP's picture

USA Today has an article about depression in new dads.

Randy or Tick Tock, care to comment? I can totally see how new parents can be depressed (I admittedly was), but the article then goes on to link a two month old with a depressed father to the child having psychiatric disorders at age seven. That seems like a bit of a stretch.... what is it about British studies that makes them seem like they're so down on fathers?

Convention Wine Tour

dayv27's picture

Robb Tavill (Chitownman here), has planned, set up, and secured a wine tour of Amador County, CA. The tour will take place Friday November 7th, leaving the convention hotel at 11 AM, and returning at 5 pm. (just in time for the meet & greet).

The tour includes all transportation, a box lunch, water and soft drinks on the road, and 5 of the top Amador County wineries. All gratuities and fees are included in the cost of the tour.

Please Consider:

I know some guys like to maintain a little privacy on the internet, but it would be really great if everyone had a small pic of themselves instead of nothing. Even the simpsonized guys are better than nothing. Don't be shy. None of us are going to be models anytime soon. I think it helps keep things real around here when you can actually see the person that you are insulting or complimenting.

Just an idea. Thanks. If you need help, just ask someone who already has a pic up.

I should have spent more time at the office.

New No.2's picture

Ah the common lament, not for me however. I must say that since my “office” these past few days, of near perfect weather, has been the play grounds on Cortelyou Rd, where I have been hanging out with the other at home moms/dads, drinking ice coffee and eating bagels, while we watch our kids play, I can definitely say, “I wish I had more time at the office.” My little one is off to preschool in Sept. So my leisurely days of drawing dinosaurs with calk on the ground and chatting amiably with my neighbors is coming to and end. But I’m enjoying watching my girl grow and make friends.

Husband considering SAHD lifestyle

Hello everyone!

I'm brand new to the forum, and am really interested in getting some advice from all of the SAHDs out there.

First, some background: my wife is a radiologist. Her salary potential absolutely dwarfs mine - she will be making $450-$500K a year once she starts her new job in July of this year. In contrast, I barely break $60K. My job is in downtown Chicago, and hers is going to be about two hours east of the city. We don't have any kids (but have a wonderful dog!) yet, but are trying, and we have talked about adopting if we can't get pregnant naturally.

The Flip Side of My Lovley Morning

New No.2's picture

After my lovley moring at the "office" I went to the (grimace) Kensington Post Office. I went, as we all do, to get held mail. As we all know friends and family like to address packages to our kids, so the name on the package was that of my daughter. I produced ID showing who I was and slid the package notice though the window.

“Who is Emerson?”
